food, fun, fam, & friends

the in-laws came to spend labor day wknd with us, and we couldn't have had more fun or eaten an ounce more.  verge of explosion.  the first night, i made a whole seafood spread - my appa in-law's all time fave dish: seafood linguine in a white clam cream sauce.  i started cooking and prepping at noon, and it was completed right as they walked in the door at 6pm :)  i bought fresh homemade pasta from this local italian market that makes all their pastas from scratch...YUM. i can never eat boxed pasta again. jk. but it seriously makes such a difference.  i made enough to serve 10, and the in-laws finished about 8 servings alone ;)  good times.

for dessert, i decided to be ambitious and make sesame red bean-filled balls from scratch b/c they LOOOOVE red bean.  if they could bathe, sleep, and play in it all day, they really would.  it was a lot more difficult than anticipated b/c the sweet rice dough was kinda sticky, so it was hard to stuff the red bean in the middle.  but after much patience and some olive oil and flour to reduce the stick, success!

they really enjoyed the meal but ate too much, so they were blobs sunken into the couch for the rest of the night.  they stayed up into the wee hours of the morning watching their korean dramas on our big screen - they were like 2 happy little young teenagers :)

the next day, they wanted to take us shopping and buy some stuff for kbear.  appa choe also wanted to build and buy some stuff for our house, so off to home depot we went :P  they stocked us up on diapers, toys, and home goods.  thanks umma & appa choe!

that night we went to all-you-can-eat dungeness crabs (where we killed 14+ huge WHOLE crabs among the 4 of us).  it was too messy and glorious to take pics :P  and last meal of the weekend, their fave vietnamese place we always go to when they visit :)  we all wore our stretchy pants through the weekend, and it was so worth it.

some random kbear updates:

she is standing with the support of one hand and cruising along the furniture :)

she is talking and singing up a STORM!  she says appa, umma, dada, mama, mma-mma (food in Korean) all very emphatically ;)

she looooves to hold her water bottle and take gulps down :P

her hair is growing more in the middle of her head, making quite the stylish mohawk when wet ;)

she falls asleep in the weirdest, most awkward positions :P

the list of foods she's now eating has become quite expansive - organic chicken pressure cooked and mashed together with broccoli, spinach, tofu, beans, squash, and carrots.  she likes mangoes, apples, and sweet potatoes with oatmeal for breakfast.  her all time favorite snack is avocados, just like mama :)  she's our good little eater, clearly seen by the rolls in her thighs :) nom nom nom.

her teachers and our friends always talk about what a *happy* baby our baby girl is :)  we feel SO blessed to have such a happy, happyyy baby :)

 
 we visited yohan & mandie who recently welcomed their baby girl, maggie!  she was a precious 5lb angel (such a feather compared to kbear :P)  simon & kbear played well together when we visited :)  congrats to the lees!
